How Long Does Invisalign Take?

How Long Does Invisalign Take?

Orthodontic treatment is specialized to address every person’s specific needs. If you have mild or moderate orthodontic needs, your treatment period can be shorter than average. For more severe bite and alignment issues, you might need to wear your orthodontics a little longer to get the best results.

Invisalign is a more flexible option than traditional braces, so the treatment time may be shorter. It also gives you more freedom to maintain your normal lifestyle and oral hygiene routine.

Our team of dentists and specialists at 2K Dental offers a range of general and cosmetic dentistry services at several convenient locations, including Parma, Akron, Cuyahoga Falls, Cleveland, and Aurora, Ohio.

How does Invisalign work?

The Invisalign system consists of a series of removable clear aligner trays. You typically wear each custom-designed tray for approximately two weeks and then switch it for the next one in the series. Like traditional braces, the trays gently shift your teeth into the desired position over time.

Since the trays are removable (you can take them off for about an hour every day), you have the flexibility to eat your normal diet and continue to brush and floss your teeth as usual.

However, for Invisalign to work effectively and deliver results, it’s important to follow our instructions and wear the trays as directed.

Invisalign generally works well for common bite and alignment issues, including:

If you have severe bite problems or wider gaps in between your teeth, traditional braces are often a better option than Invisalign.

How long does Invisalign take?

The duration of your treatment depends on your circumstances, including issues like your general oral health and the severity and complexity of your orthodontic issues.

If you have additional oral health problems like gum disease or tooth decay, those will typically need to be treated first before you get Invisalign, which can prolong the duration of your treatment.

Generally, Invisalign treatment usually takes 12-18 months. However, the duration can be shorter or longer depending on the person.

Milder and less complicated cases usually take less time to treat than more severe bite issues. If you don’t wear the trays as directed, it can prolong your treatment time or interfere with the effectiveness of your treatment.
